Ethos · Diversity

Four generations.
Thirteen cultural
backgrounds.
Two teams.

We are proud of what we have achieved across all areas of diversity, and particularly of the fact that these outcomes have arisen from how the business operates rather than from targets imposed on hiring.

We run two teams: one in Brisbane and one on the Gold Coast. Around 65 per cent of our people are based in Brisbane and 35 per cent on the Gold Coast, which is why the figures below describe a South East Queensland business rather than a single office.

Women hold 67 per cent of senior leadership positions

Six of nine leadership roles, including our Operations Manager and Head of Design and Client Relations. Women make up 53 per cent of the workforce overall, with strong representation across client-facing and strategic roles. During certification, 100 per cent of our female workforce said we were a Great Place to Work.

44 per cent of our team was born overseas

Across a team that spans thirteen cultural backgrounds, from Brazil and South Africa to the Philippines, Vietnam and beyond.

Cultural background

Our team spans Brazilian, Maori, Greek, Dutch, Irish, British, South African, French Canadian, New Zealander, Filipino, Vietnamese, Malaysian and Swiss heritage. Thirteen cultural backgrounds in a business of around forty people. This reflects who applies to work at a South East Queensland business that offers flexible hours and permanent employment, and it shapes how the team works with a client base that is itself diverse.

Generational spread

The team spans four generations, from Gen Z through to Baby Boomer, aged 24 to 66 with an average age of 39.6. Representation on the leadership team spans from 31 to 62.

The practical benefit is that experienced horticulturists work alongside people early in their careers, which is how technical knowledge in this industry actually transfers.

Flexible work

We offer early start times, work from home days and part-time employment. These arrangements support greater gender diversity, they are a significant reason the business attracts and keeps working parents, and they are directly connected to our retention figures.

Inclusion beyond what we measure

Advance Plants is committed to an inclusive workplace regardless of religion, sexual orientation, gender identity or other personal characteristics. We don’t collect data on these attributes, out of respect for our team’s privacy, but our policies guarantee equal opportunity and protection from discrimination and harassment for all.
