Go1 Brisbane

Go1’s Underwood office has an outdoor staff café at the centre of it. In February 2023 we planted about 315 plants across the inside and the outside.

The client

Go1 is a Brisbane-based corporate training marketplace, and the Underwood office in Logan is its local base. What was clear early on is that the company cared about how the space would feel to work in, and was prepared to plan it properly inside and out.

The brief

The brief was for something tropically inspired, for roughly 100 Brisbane staff, covering both the indoor floor and the outdoor café. Indoors that meant large trees with underplanting beneath them. Outdoors it meant garden beds and climbing species, including screening across a lattice.

Outside

The café is planted with kentia palm, Ficus lyrata, Philodendron xanadu, golden heart, bamboo palm and Janet Craig. Kentia and lyrata were substituted late, once the pot sizes we had specified turned out not to suit them. That kind of change happens on most installations, and it is far easier to absorb when the palette has been drawn broadly to begin with.

Golden heart went in for its variegation and its growth habit. Bamboo palm and Janet Craig do the screening between seating areas, which gives some privacy without closing the space in.

The garden beds use Pandorea jasminoides as the climber on the large screens, Cousin It for spill, and Carissa ‘Desert Star’ as hedging along the driveway entry. In the entry beds, Dichondra argentea ‘Silver Falls’ spills beneath Aloe ‘Outback Orange’ and Senecio vitalis.

Inside

Indoors the palette shifts to Janet Craig, Zanzibar gem, Spathiphyllum ‘Sensation’, Strelitzia nicolai, calathea, golden heart and pothos, each chosen on foliage colour, growth habit, and how well it holds up in an office rather than a nursery.

Maintenance

We have maintained the site since the install. The outdoor beds and the indoor planting are on the same service, which keeps the two halves of the space looking like one decision rather than two.
