Best 7 office plants (even you can’t kill)

Looking to green your workplace with low maintenance indoor office plants? Perhaps you’re a brown thumb whose had the office plant care duties thrust upon you (who gave you that job anyway? they obviously don’t know you! *furiously Googles how to keep plants alive*).

Look, no judgement here. Plant care is a skill, in fact it’s an entire industry and even our horticulturists run into issues that require their expert knowledge and plant care technology to diagnose and treat.

So, if you’ve been put in charge of keeping the office plants alive: don’t stress, just keep it simple with these seven indoor office plants that (probably) even you can’t kill.

1. Zanzibar Gem

The Zanzibar Gem, like all good office plants thrives on neglect. Its thick glossy leaves will tolerate your low-light office conditions and likes the dry side of life. Be careful not to overwater.

2. Philodendron Congo (and Rojo Congo)

The Philodendron Congo is easy-to-care-for and loves low-light indoor scenarios. It has moderate water needs and prefers dry soil between watering. Let it tell you when it needs a drink!

3. Pothos Plant (“Devil’s Ivy”)

Pothos, the training vine often referred to as “Devil’s Ivy” is as hardy as the devil and tolerant of your fluorescent office light. Like all good indoor plants, it will tell you it needs to be watered with a sad droop that says, “I’m thirsty”.

4. The Cast-Iron Plant

The Cast-Iron Plant or “Bar-Room” Plant, has been described as “indestructible” accepting the deep shade of your light-lacking cubicle and a moderate amount of water. Again, be careful not to overwater.

5. Mother-In-Law’s Tongue

Mother-In-Law’s Tongue, or “Snake Plant” is best ignored. Just water it once a month and give it bright/undirect sunlight and you’ll be good to go!

6. Ficus Elastica (and Ficus Burgundy)

The Ficus Elastica or “Rubber Plant” thrives in indirect sunlight with watering only required when the soil is dry to touch. It also has several varieties within the species with a range of leaf colour variations.

7. The Green Supreme

And finally, the Green Supreme or “mini Amazon Lily” has been called a “death proof indoor plant” and “unkillable” among plant care enthusiasts. Hailing from northwestern Colombia, it is relatively uncommon but thrives in partial sunlight with a moderate amount of water.
